Market Insider :
Bristol-based Nearhuman raised £350,000 in pre-seed funding led by SFC Capital. Founded by CEO Faizan Mir, the company develops on-device computer vision systems for shared e-scooters and e-bikes, detecting pavement riding, pedestrian near-misses and road hazards. The funding will support product development, on-street testing and commercial deployment, with privacy-preserving video processing. [link]
Scottish technology company Machines With Vision secured a multi-million-pound, multi-year Network Rail contract following a successful two-year pilot. Its RailLoc system and Fault Navigator app use cameras mounted beneath inspection trains to map railway infrastructure and guide crews to defects with millimetre accuracy. Locating a suspected defect reportedly drops from around one hour to five minutes, improving safety and reducing wasted crew time. [link]
OKSI and Qualcomm Government Technologies partnered to deploy OKSI’s OMNISCIENCE autonomy software on Qualcomm processors, optimized initially for the QCS8550. The portfolio enables visual navigation, object detection, recognition and autonomous mission execution on unmanned platforms in communications-constrained environments. The collaboration aims to simplify scalable deployment of mission-ready edge AI across defense platforms. [link]
Shelfmark welcomed C2 Ventures and individual investors Jay Sehgal and Wyatt Bramhall in the second close of its $3.5 million seed round, led by Armory Square Ventures. Its AI-powered platform combines line-scan cameras, computer vision and production data to detect defects and identify root causes. Customers report up to 90% less waste, 50% lower inspection labor and 7× ROI. [link]
GreyOrange acquired Site Bionics to combine camera-based digital twins with gStore’s item-level RFID intelligence. The technology uses existing security cameras to understand shopper movement, product interactions and store execution, while video-language models enable natural-language queries. Initially integrating with gStore, the platform is expected to extend into warehouse operations through GreyMatter. [link]
Auckland’s Spark Arena has introduced AI-powered self-checkout scanners from Mashgin, becoming New Zealand’s first arena to adopt the technology. Using cameras to recognize food and drinks from multiple angles, the system eliminates manual barcode scanning. Existing deployments include Marvel Stadium, Optus Stadium and Adelaide Oval in Australia. [link]
EAIGLE showcased its Blue Gate computer vision platform at its October 2026 Yard of the Future Summit in Toronto, attended by 100+ supply chain leaders from Walmart, P&G, Kraft Heinz, Mondelez, Kimberly-Clark, Staples and Loblaw. Using existing security cameras, Blue Gate automates truck verification, cutting gate dwell times to under 30 seconds and enabling up to 5× throughput. [link]
Research Spotlight :
Researchers introduced MambaMPD, a Mamba-based segmentation framework for detecting marine pollution from satellite imagery. Designed for challenging conditions such as small pollution patches, low contrast, fragmented patterns, and unclear boundaries, it combines Frequency-Aware Augmentation (FAA) using wavelet transforms with Edge-Guided Attention (EGA) for sharper boundary detection. ModaLens introduces a paired image-swap audit to test whether medical vision-language models actually respond to radiology images when reports are available. Evaluating MedGemma-27B on 44,786 trials from 3,199 MIMIC-CXR cases, researchers found that generated answers changed after image substitution in 20.94% of trials without the report, compared with just 4.26% with it—a 16.7-point difference.
